BECOME A PARISH COUNCILLOR

Are you interested in the life of your parish, the local environment, planning matters and issues that affect our community?

The Parish Council is made up of five members of the public.

 We have a vacancy – will YOU come and join us?

If you are interested in becoming a Parish Councillor, please send an email to the Parish Clerk and the Clerk will send you a Co-option and Eligibility Application Form to complete

Please note, all Parish Councillors are volunteers; they are not paid.

Eligibility to Become a Parish Councillor (2026)

To be eligible to stand or be co‑opted as a parish councillor, you must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Be a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland
• EU citizens may stand only if they have settled status or pre‑settled status under the UK’s EU Settlement Scheme
• Meet one of the following local connection requirements:
  • You are registered to vote in the parish, or
  • You have lived in the parish (or within 3 miles of it) for the last 12 months, or
  • You have worked in the parish for the last 12 months, or
  • You have owned property in the parish for the last 12 months

You cannot be a councillor if:

• You work for the council you wish to join, or you hold a politically restricted post in any local authority
• You are subject to a bankruptcy restrictions order
• You have received a prison sentence of three months or more (including suspended sentences) within the last five years
• You have been found guilty of corrupt or illegal electoral practices
