Great British Spring Clean 2025 – 24 March to 29 March (main day)

At the last Parish Council meeting, 17 February 2025, the Parish Council agreed to support the annual litter pick; this year over the week of 24 March to 29 March (main day) - minute reference 25/0006 (c) - https://greatandlittlehampdenparishcouncil.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/DRAFT-Minutes-17

I will be collecting new ‘litter picking’ equipment from Buckinghamshire Council on 18 March and will be at the Memorial Hall at 09:30 am on the 22nd to distribute the equipment to any volunteers.  We have also still have the ‘slow down – litter picking’ signs left over from last year.

Please email me if you intend to take part and I will make sure there is kit for you.

Rubbish drop off point

The drop off location, last year, created an unsightly mess outside the Memorial Hall while we waited for Buckinghamshire Council to collect the rubbish.  I have negotiated a new location this year.

Any collected bags of litter should be left by the rubbish bin by the Memorial Road bus stop, for Buckinghamshire Council to pick it up on the Monday/Tuesday after the litter pick.

Individual risk assessment

It is important that volunteers note that they take part at their own risk and that individuals taking part undertake their own personal risk assessment.

To help individuals do this, the Council has placed an interactive spreadsheet on the Council website.

On the ‘risk assessment’ tab, individuals should type a number 1 to 3 (see details below and on the ‘coversheet’ tab of the spreadsheet) into the columns ‘volunteer personal residual likelihood score’ and ‘volunteer personal impact score’.  The column ‘volunteer personal overall residual risk rating’ will then dynamically change to either red, amber or green. Volunteers can then use this rating to decide if they wish to take part.

Volunteers will note that the ‘litter pick’ area should be limited to ‘slower traffic’ roads.  See the risk assessment spreadsheet (item 7 – collisions) and the suggested collection area map on the ‘coversheet’ tab.

Understanding risk
Likelihood: Likelihood is the probability of an occurrence considering the control measures that you have in place
Likelihood score Description
1 (Low) Where harm is unlikely to occur under normal circumstances.  Low expectation of occurrence.
2 (Medium) Where harm is likely to occur in time or exposure to the hazard exists intermittently or hazardous event occurs occasionally.
3 (High) Where the hazard is likely to occur imminently or in the very short term, or exposure is permanent or occurs frequently or much evidence of previous harm.
Severity: Severity is how serious a potential risk could be.
 Severity score  Description
1 (Low) All other minor injuries – first aid treatment with no permanent harm – minor cuts and bruises
2 (Medium) Injuries or work related illness where people are unable to undertake their normal work for more than 3 days; semi permanent harm or injury.
3 (High) Death, major injury or work related illness, permanent harm or disability.

Any resident wanting help with their individual assessment of risk should speak with me.
